Mrs. Postikit had the church kids over at her house to play. They were playing, to the Glory of God. They had dolls, blocks and fire trucks.
They saw that the cat was looking at the wall. His ears were perked up. They walked near and heard a tiny sound. What was it?
Sophia found Mrs. Postikit and brought her in. She said, “Mrs. Postikit, do you know what is making that sound?” Mrs. Postikit said, “I think I do, but we had better get Mr. Postikit to be sure.”
Shawn got Mr. Postikit who had a stethoscope with him. He put the end of it on the wall and listened. The kids were very quiet and listened too.
The kids said, “Mr. Postikit, do you know what it is?” Mr. Postikit said, “Of course I do, there is a mouse in the wall!” Sareta said, “What are we going to do Mr. Postikit, can we save him and set him free?” Mr. Postikit said, “It will be hard, but, yes, I think we can, but first we need a plan!”
The cat stood guard near the mouse. The kids went with Mr. Postikit to his workshop. They helped him find the right tools for the job.
Sophia said, "We can use this big hammer to knock a big hole in the wall. When the mouse jumps out we can put him in this big bucket!"
Mr. Postikit said, "That might work Sophia, but I think the mouse would be very scared and Mrs. Postikit would have a big hole in her wall. Maybe there is a better plan."
Shawn said, "Mr. Postikit, we can cut a hole in the wall near the floor. Then we could use this drill to cut a hole at the top of the wall. Then we could use this hose to fill the wall with water and wash the mouse out!"
Mr. Postikit shook his head, "That might work Shawn, but Mrs. Postikit would have a big mess to clean up, don't you think kids?" The kids all said, "Of course she would, please help us think of a better plan!"
Mr. Postikit got a small saw, the drill and a coat hanger. He also got a box, some tape and some cheese. They all went back to the wall where the mouse was. The cat was still there.
"Mr. Postikit, what are you going to do?" the kids asked. Mr. Postikit said, "watch, and we will save God's tiny creature from the wall and set him free outside. Can you do that?" The kids said, "Of course we can!"
Mr. Postikit cut a hole near the floor with the saw. He put cheese in the box and taped it to the wall over the hole. He then made a hole up on the wall and put the hanger into it. He then moved it around. He said, "this hanger will scare the mouse just a little bit, and maybe he will run into the box."
Soon the cat ran to the box and listened. Did he hear mouse sounds? "Of course he did!" The mouse was out of the wall and into the box!
It was now time to set the mouse free. Shawn and Ricky put the tools away for Mr. Postikit. Sophia and Sareta swept up the dust from the cutting and drilling. Then the kids went with Mr. Postikit out to the back yard.
Sareta said, "Can I set him free?" Mr. Postikit said, "Of course you can!" Sareta took the box to the stone wall and opened it. The mouse looked at the kids and squeaked, "Thank you!" and ran into a safe hole in the wall. After the mouse was free, Sareta said, “Mr. Postikit, I think the mouse would say to you, "Thank you for being a help and a blessing."
Now don't forget, when you are making a plan, think it all the way through so you don't end up with a bigger mess than you started with. Also, don't forget to put away your tools and sweep up when your are done. Then, you will be working to the glory of God!
